Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz will present the keynote address, "Climate Action & Sustainability," at the 14th annual WNY Environmental Summit this Saturday, Sept. 29, at Daemen College's Wick Center.
The annual summit brings together businesses, schools and community organizations that promote sustainability and environmental change to share information, develop networks and collaborate in effecting positive environmental change. The event is free and open to the public, with registration and breakfast for all attendees taking place between 8:30 and 9 a.m.
Poloncarz will deliver the keynote address at 9 a.m., focusing on Erie County's commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and incorporating other measures to mitigate climate change as outlined in his administration's 2018 "Erie County Commits to Paris: How Erie County Can Meet US Target Reductions for Greenhouse Gas Emissions" report. Exhibitors from more than 25 local environmental, business, and grassroots organizations will be on hand starting at 8:30 a.m., with networking from 10-11 a.m. A panel discussion, "Local Success Stories and How to Create Your Own," will be held from 11 a.m. until noon and will feature five Western New York projects discussing the process for their success.
As part of the Environmental Summit, a community electronics recycling collection will take place outside the Wick Center.
The Environmental Summit is sponsored by Daemen College's Paul A. Saffrin Center for Sustainability and Civic Engagement and the Global and Sustainability Program, The Knoer Group, and Western New York Apollo Alliance. For more information, click HERE.
