Regan Intermediate students learn 'The Power of Yet'

At Starpoint's Regan Intermediate School the theme of the year is the Power of Yet.  Principal Monica Daigler said it's all about the growth mindset.
"We started out with our assembly so we could talk to the students about if they can't do something right now, that they might have to try it a different way or try it five times till they get to it. That is what this year is about - trying new things and not getting discouraged and also making goals for themselves."
During the assembly students were asked by Jeff Cacicia, elementary instructional and behavioral support specialist, to do things they might not feel comfortable with or feel that they don't have the skills for like dancing, playing a song, doing athletics, doing a math problem or spelling. Many students gamely made an attempt or executed the challenges flawlessly. Daigler even showed a dance move, during one challenge, called "The Roger Rabbit," to the cheers of the assembled student body.
The students performed a song called "The Power of Yet," and a dance that the physical education teachers made up to the song.
"The teachers even created a display in the hallway of think bubbles that are things that they are working hard for, but can't do yet," said Daigler. "The kids even started brainstorming about things they worked on that they can do and things they can't do yet, but are working hard for.  We think it is a great PBIS initiative and we are excited about all the activities we have focused on that theme."
