The New York State Department of Transportation on Thursday announced a road closure has been scheduled on a portion of Hyde Park Boulevard (NY Route 61) in the city of Niagara Falls to conduct railroad maintenance.
On Sunday, Sept. 23, at approximately noon, Hyde Park Boulevard between Highland Avenue and Lafayette Avenue will be closed to thru traffic in both directions. Motorists will be directed to follow a posted detour using Witmer Road, and Power Authority Service Road. The roadway is scheduled to be re-opened by 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27.
Motorists are advised to allow for additional travel time and seek alternate routes.
Recently, NYSDOT and the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee unveiled a new public service announcement and social media campaign focused on the importance of respecting flagging personnel. This year's work zone safety campaign, "Flaggers have families too," is designed to remind motorists that flagging personnel are not attempting to disrupt traffic - they are simply doing their jobs and want to get home safely at the end of each work day. The PSA can be viewed here and here.
