Falcons Flashback: Fall sports up to 45 combined wins

Several Falcons teams remain unbeaten through four weeks

Last fall, Falcons athletics accrued four Niagara Frontier League titles. As of now, this season's teams are on pace to do the same and then some.
Leading off, the Falcons football team started slow last Thursday at Hamburg, but finished strong for a 35-12 victory. The win increases the Falcons' record to 3-0 heading into a crucial road game at Jamestown.
On the offensive side of the ball, Jordan Parks rushed 13 times for 174 yards and three touchdowns, Nick Stott ran eight times for 70 yards and Bryson Solomon rushed five times for 76 yards. Parks was also 3-7 passing with 84 yards, while Gordon was 2-2 with 44 yards and a touchdown. Gordon's touchdown pass was a 40-yard completion to Noah Bennett.
Defensively, Jake DeWolf led all with 14 tackles and an interception, while Josh Thibeault, Cody Guiliani and Griffin Cornwell had 8,7 and 6 tackles, respectively. Solomon added a fumble recovery on defense, his second of the season. Also, Antonio Conklin had two sacks, while Thibeault, Mixon and Guiliani added a sack apiece. Kevin Cannon also notched his third fumble recovery of the season.
Of being 3-0 to start the season, N-W coach Russ Nixon said, "I'm just proud of these guys. They show up everyday, they bust their butts. I know I'm not easy on them all the time, but I can't ask for a better group of guys. ... I can't say enough about how proud I am of these guys and where they're taking this program. Everything that has happened is a reflection of their hard work."
The Falcons matchup in Jamestown is at 7 p.m. Friday.
The girls cross country team fared well last Saturday at the Officials Invite at Beaver Island State Park. The girls finished second in the first division and were led by Victoria Achtziger-Hughes who finished fifth in the girls 1 and 2 division with a time of 21.37.1. Also, finishing strong for the Falcons was Ella DeFranco and Lance Goldman who finished with times of 24:27.3 and 25:44.4, respectively.
On the boys side, the team struggled, but Aiden Tribbets led the Falcons with a time of 19:40.6.
Both cross country teams' next meet is Friday at the Penfield Invitational at Harris Whalen Park, Penfield.
The boys golf team kept chugging along in Niagara Frontier League play this past week. The boys extended its winning streak to 76 matches with wins over Niagara Falls, Grand Island and Lewiston-Porter. In the victory over Grand Island, Nolan Codd medaled shooting a 37 and Anthony and RJ Delisanti shot 38 and 44, respectively. Versus Lewiston-Porter, Delisanti led the way again, firing a 33 for another medalist honor.
The team's next match is on Friday at CSAT.
The girls tennis team was challenged this past week, but still came away with three victories to remain unbeaten (8-0). After a dominant 5-0 win over Kenmore West, the girls defeated Lewiston-Porter, 4-1, then were pushed by Grand Island in a 3-2 victory. The girls also defeated Lockport Wednesday, 4-1.
In the win over Lewiston-Porter, Mackenzie Patterson, Elise Ellis, and the doubles pairs of Jocelyn Fike and Nikki Kwiatkowski, and Sydney Crangle and Gabriela Greene scored victories in two sets.
In the victory over Grand Island, Fike, Kwiatkowski, Crangle and Anastasia Mohilewsky came up clutch with two doubles victories. Patterson won her match in second singles, (6-2, 6-1) to give the Falcons the third point.
The girls next match is versus is at 4:15 p.m. Friday versus North Tonawanda.
The boys varsity soccer team is currently 8-1 overall and 6-1 in the NFL this season. For a full report on the team, visit wnypapers.com.
The girls soccer team was defeated for the first time this season against rival Grand Island, 3-0. The Falcons bounced back, though, as it defeated Kenmore East, 4-0. In the win, Abby Mason, Erin Weir, Madison Evarts and Briana Zayatz all scored goals. The Falcons' record is now 7-1-1.
The girls' next match is at 4:45 p.m. today at CSAT. 
The girls swimming and diving continued its strong start to season with victories over Lewiston-Porter and North Tonawanda. For a full report on the team, go to wnypapers.com.
The boys volleyball team is still in search of its first win, but the team improved this past week, winning sets versus Kenmore East and Niagara Falls. The two matches resulted in 3-1 losses. The boys are back in action Saturday at the Sweet Home Tournament.
Lastly, the girls volleyball team won three NFL matches this past week - 3-0 victories over Lewiston-Porter, Kenmore East and Niagara Falls.
The girls were tested in the third set versus Kenmore East, Friday, but scored a 26-24 set victory to sweep the match.
In the win over Niagara Falls, Jenna Sonnenberg had 12 digs, Emily Brochey had nine aces and six assists and Katelyn Kostiw had six kills.
The girls next match is at 6 p.m. Monday at league rival Lockport.
