27th Congressional District: Collins back in race, to actively campaign

Upon the Republican Party's affirmation U.S. Rep. Chris Collins will be the 27th District's GOP candidate in November, the candidate sent an email to supporters stating, "Voters can be assured that with the recent turn of events, they can count on me to actively campaign for Congress, and to serve should voters re-elect me.
"The stakes are too high to allow the radical left to take control of this seat in Congress. Their agenda is clear. They want to reverse the recently enacted tax cuts, impose Canadian style healthcare, inflict new job-killing regulations and impeach President Trump.
"We cannot stand by and let that happen.
"As a result, I will fight on two fronts. I will work to ensure the 27th Congressional District remains in Republican hands, while I fight to clear my good name in the courts."
Collins is seeking re-election.
Democrat Party challenger and Town of Grand Island Supervisor Nate McMurray issued his own email. He stated, "It looks like the criminal is returning to the scene of the crime - and I'm not just talking about insider trading, lying to the FBI and everything else he's been accused of - I mean the derelict of duty he did by ignoring his constituents and their interests for every second of his elected life.
"I'm curious to know what Mr. Collins means by 'actively campaign' because he hasn't talked to his constituents, hasn't held town halls, and has been hiding in his penthouse since the FBI arrested him. Now he thinks that the voters of this district who are getting hurt by a trade war, are struggling to make ends meet, and know that Washington is more corrupt than ever, he thinks they're going to trust him? Give me a break. He looks out for himself. And maybe his donors.
"Chris Collins has been charged with a crime. He can't buy his way back into his job.
"Chris Collins thinks the rules don't apply to him. They do.
"Chris Collins represents everything that's wrong with Washington.
"Chris, if you're listening from Manhattan, here are a few words you may remember, 'lock him up' 'drain the swamp.' I hear your next court appearance is on Oct. 11. I bet some folks from NY-27 may take a road trip.
In the meantime, I welcome you on the campaign trail, sir. Bring it."
On Aug. 8, Geoffrey S. Berman, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, and William F. Sweeney Jr., the assistant director-in-charge of the New York Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, arrested Collins, his son, Cameron Collins, and Stephen Zarsky, the father of Cameron Collins' fiancée. They were arrested on charges of participating in a scheme to commit insider trading relating to securities of Innate Immunotherapeutics, an Australian biotechnology company on whose board of directors Chris Collins served.
