The New York Power Authority will host a first responders training at the Niagara Power Project between 4-10 p.m. Thursday. NYPA security and staff will work with local law enforcement response teams on this exercise, which will involve officers in full tactical gear and SWAT vehicles. Additional people will act as victims and be treated on scene.
Officers will respond to the Lewiston Pump Generating Station. Nearby residents and passers-by may hear the sound of blank gunfire. Please be reminded: This is only a drill.
NYPA is the largest state public power organization in the nation, operating 16 generating facilities and more than 1,400 circuit-miles of transmission lines. More than 70 percent of the electricity NYPA produces is clean, renewable hydropower. NYPA uses no tax money or state credit. It finances its operations through the sale of bonds and revenues earned in large part through sales of electricity. For more information, visit www.nypa.gov.
