United Way of Greater Niagara is now receiving donations year-round for its disaster relief fund. This is a way you can donate money to major disasters happening locally, nationally or worldwide.
People are affected by terrible disasters each year and your local United Way is dedicated to not only helping people in our own community, but also all over the world. We take comfort in knowing our community will help others in need. With donations yearly, United Way will be more prepared when a disaster happens, and will be able to send money, food and, hopefully, aid by trucks to the directly affected areas.
Last year, United Way of Greater Niagara received a check for $1,829 from General Motors in Lockport to send to Puerto Rico to assist the victims of Hurricane Maria. UWGN reached out to Fondos Unidos of San Juan (United Way of San Juan) in Puerto Rico to receive these funds and distribute them in the community after Hurricane Maria devastated the island.
"This drive was initiated by employees of the plant after seeing the devastation caused by the historic hurricane, and (we) asked what we can do to help," GM plant manager Bill Tiger said. "In addition to the money raised, one of our UAW members, Lumi Irizarry, volunteered to be part of a team to go to Puerto Rico to assist in the recovery."
United Way of Greater Niagara stands ready to fight for everyone in the path of Hurricane Florence. As a critical part of a community recovery efforts, United Way is ready to help!
United Way of Greater Niagara will send trucks and relief directly to the affected areas, and with yearly donations, it will be able to gather supplies and have more time to make a difference.
Please help United Way rebuild the lives of the people in the affected areas by donating to United Way's disaster relief fund. To donate, please go to www.uwgn.org, click on the "Donate Now" button, and select "Disaster Relief Fund."
