Opening culmination of 2 years of work to provide more private rooms for patients
Mount St. Mary's Hospital has now completed a two-year renovation program that has refurbished all of its inpatient rooms and added a significant number of additional private rooms. Improvements were necessary because of a consistent increase in the number of patients.
Beginning in 2016, renovations have included new flooring, digital TVs, nurse call system, mattresses and, now, new furniture. Mount St. Mary's now has the capacity to provide patients up to 65 private rooms.
"This work is a tribute to the care that our physicians, nurses and associates provide to our patients each and every day," hospital President and CEO Gary Tucker said. "We have experienced a steady and consistent increase in the number of patients who are putting their trust in our care and we are able to now provide them with even more privacy to accommodate their needs."
An important part of the overall care provided is that all of the units have cardiac telemetry for the nursing staff to effectively monitor patients.
Total cost of the initiative is estimated at $1.7 million. Capital funds were provided by Catholic Health for the flooring, mattresses and renovations, while the Mount St. Mary's Hospital Foundation provided $259,000 for the furniture.
"The Mount St. Mary's Hospital Foundation is fortunate to receive support from hundreds of area residents and businesses throughout the year, and we are delighted that some of those donations are being utilized for the comfort of our patients and their families in their time of need," Executive Director Julie Berrigan said.
