It's going to be like Father's Day in autumn

Due to the ongoing construction of the West River Connector Trail, which caused the removal of the West River Parkway, this year's Grand Island Father's Day Lawnmower Race has moved to the fall.
The 25th installment of the Father's Day Lawnmower Race fundraiser will take place in Veterans Park at noon, Sept. 15, and honor the late Mary Dunbar-Daluisio, as well as host the annual Kevin Doring Memorial Walk/Run. Dunbar-Daluisio was a longtime chair of the Grand Island Relay For Life, a beneficiary of proceeds from the race, and Doring was the son of one of the race founders, Floyd Doring.
Organizers of the event expect a Saturday of family fun with new features like food trucks and activities for kids, such as a miniature golf putting green. A celebrity race and live music are planned.
The races annually took place on West River Parkway, but the conversion of the parkway to a multi-use path forced the committee to look for a new venue.
