Schimminger announces grants for Kenmore, NT libraries

Thu, Aug 9th 2018 02:40 pm
Assemblyman Robin Schimminger recently announced that two libraries in the 140th Assembly District have been awarded state grants for needed capital improvements. The Kenmore branch of the Town of Tonawanda Public Library, located at 160 Delaware Road in the village, will be receiving a grant of $20,991, while the North Tonawanda Public Library, located at 505 Meadow Drive, will receive $12,373.
The funding for the Kenmore library will be used to cover expenses related to a replacement and upgrade of the library's electrical service. The NT Library grant will go toward upgrading internet and information technology services, including rewiring and configuring the systems to ensure the library continues to be able to meet patrons' needs.
"Libraries are such an important asset to our communities," Schimminger said. "These state funds will help improve both the Kenmore Branch Library and North Tonawanda Public Library for all the patrons who enjoy the facilities in both of these libraries."
These grants are among the more than 200 state grants that public libraries and library systems throughout New York state receive each year through library construction funding provided in the New York state budget. A $24 million capital fund appropriation in the 2017 budget will support the allotted amounts of money these libraries are receiving in order to meet their capital needs.
