Congratulations go out to the CSI team of Austin Briley (Lewiston-Porter), Claudia Wrate (Starpoint) and Kasey Taylor (Wilson).  The security and law enforcement students took third place at the National SkillsUSA competition held in Louisville, Kentucky.
More than 6,000 students, all state contest winners, participated in the weeklong event that is a showcase of career and technical education students. Students worked against the clock and each other, proving their expertise in occupations such as electronics, computer-aided drafting, precision machining, medical assisting and culinary arts. Contests were run with the help of industry, trade associations and labor organizations, and test competencies are set by industry.
The team, which attends the Niagara Career and Technical Education Center, went head to head with teams from every state.  In the competition, they were directed to a crime scene and briefed as to the situation. The team processed the crime scene where they legally searched for, collected and removed evidence of the crime. One member of the team was required to lift a latent fingerprint from a piece of evidence and after the scene has been processed, the contestants wrote a report, drew the crime scene sketch and marked their evidence.
