Around mid-afternoon Wednesday, the Northwest Bank on Grand Island, 2300 Grand Island Blvd., was robbed by an unknown suspect. The suspect reportedly escaped on foot and Erie County Sheriff's along with the U.S. Border Patrol, New York State Troopers, New York Park Police and other local responders are currently searching for the suspect. Along with the crews, a U.S. Border Patrol helicopter is low to the ground searching for the robber.
The Erie County Sheriff's official Twitter account tweeted a picture of the suspect and said the male is armed with a handgun and should not be approached. In a release, the ECS said "A slender white male who was wearing jeans, a camouflage baseball cap, glasses, gloves, along with a black wig and brown mustache wig entered the bank.  He approached a teller displayed a handgun and demanded money. He then left the bank with an indeterminate amount of money."
Anyone with information or who may have observed the suspect is urged to call the Erie County Sheriff's Office at 716-858-2903 and refer to CL# 18-050842.
As of Thursday afternoon, the ECSO said there are no updates on the search and the suspect is still at large.
The NFP staff is working to discover more details and will follow up as more information comes in.
