Four Star Leadership with General Tommy Franks has announced Katherine Terryberry, 16, of Lewiston, as one of 67 students worldwide to be selected to participate in this year's leadership program, July 8-13 in Edmond, Oklahoma. Four Star Leadership is a free summer leadership program that provides students with in-class instruction and mentoring opportunities with national and international leaders.
Terryberry, a senior at Western New York Maritime Charter, was chosen due to her demonstrated leadership abilities and outstanding character. Among her many activities and accomplishments, Terryberry is a member of the National Honor Society and is a battalion commander of the Maritime Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps.
Terryberry will travel on various excursions across Oklahoma, where she will meet and engage with national and international leaders, including politicians, dignitaries and star athletes. Terryberry will be confronted with practical leadership and ethical scenarios and then challenged to address them individually in a persuasive speech and writing competition as well as collaboratively in an Ethics Bowl tournament.
Terryberry will also have the opportunity to earn a portion of more than $30,000 in scholarships as well as gain internships and receive letters of recommendation.
Program curriculum is designed around the four core principles that lead now-retired Gen. Tommy Franks through his 38-year military career: character, common vision, communication and caring.
"Our leadership program is dedicated to investing in the lives of tomorrow's leaders and helping them appropriately develop the tools needed for growth in their personal lives and their communities," Franks said. "We are excited about meeting this year's leadership class and assisting program participants in achieving their leadership goals."
Four Star Leadership with General Tommy Franks is a leadership program developed as a partnership between the General Tommy Franks Leadership Institute and Museum and Oklahoma Christian University. Four Star Leadership offers 70 top high school students leadership experience through curriculum at no cost to students.
Since 2008, Four Star Leadership has welcomed 493 U.S. high school students from 48 different states and 43 international students. For more information, visit www.FourStarLeader.com or call 580-726-5900.
