Over the weekend, New York State Sen. Rob Ortt joined the Olcott Fire Co. to reveal its brand-new, multiuse emergency response truck. Thanks to a grant obtained by Ortt, the fire company was able to purchase a new response vehicle.
This heavy-duty truck, with its 10-foot rescue body, will replace a 15-year-old vehicle previously used for brush and rubbish fires. Due to the versatility of this new vehicle and the inclusion of a 200-gallon water tank, the truck will be utilized more effectively than the company's previous model. This new truck will also include two SCBA units, lifejackets, cold-water rescue suits for water emergencies, and EMS/ALS equipment - certifying it as an EMS response vehicle.
"Our volunteer firefighters and EMS first responders are the everyday heroes of our community, and we must support those who put their life on the line for the betterment of the community they serve," Ortt said. "The Olcott Fire Co. is one that takes enormous pride in the equipment and service they provide the residents of the Town of Newfane, and I'm proud that I was able to assist them."
"This funding means a lot to the company," Olcott Fire Chief Stephen Miller said. "To have a new vehicle joining the fleet, replacing a 15-year-old piece of equipment, is crucial if we are to keep our company providing the highest level of emergency services possible. Because the fire company is 100 percent volunteer, our funding is limited and receiving donations and grants to purchase equipment is a huge asset to the town and community. We are so thankful that Sen. Ortt was able to secure a significant grant for the company."
The company also played host to a recruitment drive in conjunction to the unveiling, informing residents of the ways they can help their local fire company. Those interested in volunteering time to the company can visit http://olcottfirecompany.com.
