3rd annual event will support NFMMC's cardiac and stroke care center
A local family that vowed to support better heart and stroke care in Niagara will hold the third annual Robert Steinjan Sr. Memorial Car Show on Saturday, July 14, in Sanborn.
Robert O. Steinjan Sr., who died in 2015 at the age of 76, had chronic heart disease and was treated at Memorial after suffering both a stroke and a heart attack. His family was so favorably impressed by the care he received that they set a fundraising goal of $25,000 for Memorial's new cardiac and stroke unit, and will hold the car show annually until their goal is attained. Last year's event raised $8,300, bringing the family's two-year gift total to $15,200.
As was the case last year, proceeds from the event will benefit the new, 23-bed inpatient cardiac and stroke care unit, which opened earlier this year.
"The staff at Memorial took great care of our father," said Steinjan's son, William Steinjan. "We are honored to help the new stroke and cardiac wing, and believe in the city and the help the new unit will provide for others."
The Robert O. Steinjan Sr. Memorial Car Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the grounds of Hoover's Dairy, 6045 Ward Road, and will feature raffles, music, food, face painting, an exhibit by the Wild Kritters wildlife rehabilitators - and all those classic cars.
Admission is free; car registration is $10. For information, call 716-713-7025.
