Miniature carousels on display at Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum

Thu, Jun 21st 2018 05:30 pm
The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum will host this year's convention of the Carousel Modelers and Miniatures Association during the museum's operating hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from June 29-30.
CMMA members from several states will be in attendance. On display during the convention will be hand-built carousel models, miniature hand-carved carousel animals and other miniature carousel-related items. CMMA members will be available to discuss carousel modeling and will demonstrate carving.
A featured display will be the CMMA Evolution Carousel Project carousel model. The ECP carousel, which will be among those operating during the convention, was designed as an easily built model not requiring expensive metal working or machining. The highly detailed carousel will provide more miniaturists and woodcarvers the opportunity to construct a working carousel model.
The National Carousel Association will have a display during the event. NCA members will be on hand to provide membership information and discuss carousel history.
The museum itself is an ideal setting for a CMMA convention, with two operating vintage carousels, a gallery of historic carousel figures and band organs, which are played daily.
The CMMA was founded in 1986 by a small group of modelers with the goal of bringing together woodcarvers and miniaturists interested in constructing working carousel models. Today the CMMA is an international organization with members from across the United States and several foreign countries. Contact Patrick Wentzel, CMMA secretary-treasurer, for more information or to join the organization.
