N-WHS sophomore Cole Janowsky breaks powerlifting record

If there was any example of what hard work and dedication can do, Cole Janowsky is it. Cole competed in the 2018 WNY Powerlifting Championship for the first time and wowed the crowd as he broke the current junior 13-15 year old category record.
Leading up to this accomplishment, Cole trained for 16 weeks straight, four days a week. Being that he is a football player, gaining strength was of great importance to him with football season always on the radar.
"I felt that I needed to get bigger, faster and stronger for the next season on the field. My goal is to play college football," he said.
"Cole gained more than just strength. He used to give up on heavy weights early in training and has since learned to push harder and grind through hard sessions. He also gained the confidence that comes along with strength and accomplishment. How many other individuals with a bodyweight of 170 pounds can squat 303 pounds or bench their own bodyweight plus some?" added strength-training coach, Thomas Delorimiere.
With the help and support of his coach, who encouraged him to participate in the competition, Cole was successful on his first attempt.
"I was a little bit nervous as it was my first completion, there were about 100 people involved in the event. Overall it was a great first-time experience, I look forward to breaking my own record next year," Janowsky said.
Cole is looking to have a successful season on the football field for the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons this year as he hopes to make the varsity squad. He also plays halfback on a travel soccer team he is currently on.
