5th consecutive time KeyBank is on annual Civic 50 List & named financials sector leader for 3rd time
KeyBank has been named an honoree of The Civic 50 by Points of Light, the world's largest organization dedicated to volunteer service. The award recognizes KeyBank as one of the most community-minded companies in the U.S. In addition, KeyBank was named the sector leader for financial services for the second-straight year and third time overall.
The Civic 50 provides a national standard for superior corporate citizenship and showcases how companies can use their time, skills and other resources to improve the communities in which they do business. The Civic 50 winners were announced at the Service Unites 2018, Points of Light's annual conference on volunteering and service in Atlanta, where leaders from across sectors gathered to discuss social innovation, civic engagement and cross-sector collaboration.
"The Civic 50 truly highlights the commitment of community and civic engagement of America's leading brands," said Natalye Paquin, president and CEO, Points of Light. "Points of Light believes that people drive change in addressing society's growing and most profound challenges. The business community plays an important role in creating and delivering innovative solutions that drive social good in the communities where they live and work."
The Civic 50 honorees are public and private companies with U.S. operations and revenues of $1 billion or more, and are selected based on four dimensions of their U.S. community engagement program, including investment, integration, institutionalization and impact.
"KeyBank's purpose is to help clients and communities thrive," said Margot Copeland, chairman and CEO of The KeyBank Foundation. "That purpose comes to life everyday as our employees work to deliver on our commitments. We are proud that KeyBank's efforts to invest in, engage with and support our communities have been recognized for the fifth consecutive year by the Points of Light Foundation. We are especially honored to again be named the top bank in this regard as the financials sector leader."
Copeland pointed to KeyBank's National Community Benefits Plan, a five-year $16.5 billion commitment to the community launched in 2017. In the first year of the plan, KeyBank invested more than $2.8 billion in affordable housing, small businesses in low-to-moderate-income communities, mortgages for low-income borrowers and transformative philanthropy.
"KeyBank's community benefits plan was built on and amplifies our long-standing commitment to thriving communities," Copeland said.
"This honor reflects the high priority KeyBank places on investing in all of the communities we serve, and Buffalo and Western New York are a big part of that," said Gary Quenneville, KeyBank Upstate New York regional executive. "We are proud of the $140 million impact our National Community Benefits Plan had in this region in 2017. Our investment in safe and decent affordable housing, small business, mortgage lending in low-to-moderate income communities and philanthropy exceeded our expectations in 2017. We look forward to continuing this work in 2018 and beyond."
The Civic 50 survey was administered by True Impact, a company specializing in helping organizations maximize and measure their social and business value. The survey instrument consists of quantitative and multiple-choice questions that inform The Civic 50 scoring process. The Civic 50 is the only survey and ranking system that exclusively measures corporate involvement in communities.
