Lewiston's own The Silo Restaurant will unveil a new historical marker in celebration of 20 years of business. A party has been planned including family-fun, food specials and a celebration of the people who have contributed to the success of the popular and unique business for the past two decades. All are invited to the restaurant located at 115 N. Water St., on Wednesday, June 20, beginning at 11 a.m. That's when the new marker is set to be revealed.
The marker is funded by The Silo Restaurant and was created by local community volunteer Lee Simonson. It was designed to retell the history of the old coal silo now serving as a popular eatery. It will complement the historical plaques and markers found in Lewiston.
A repurposed old CN Rail car serves as "The Ice Cream Caboose" and houses more than 40 flavors of Perry's Ice Cream. From noon to 4 p.m. on June 20, on the 20th minute of the hour, there will be giveaways of commemorative gear, such as T-shirts, Koozies, stickers and more, while ice cream cones will be priced at only .20 cents between noon and 3 p.m. (or while supplies last).
"My family has been in this area for seven generations. Twenty years after we first envisioned a place for great food on the river, we want to celebrate our history, our growth, and, most of all, our customers!" proprietor Alan Hastings said. "We have a lot going for us. We have two historically significant and interesting structures, the absolute best view and amazing people - as both staff and customers. We hope everyone will come out and celebrate our 20th year in business with us."
