On Wednesday, May 9, The GreenFields Continuing Care Community was presented with the Special Program Award by Leading Age of Western New York.
Modeled after Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center's "Life Recorded" project, The GreenFields introduced "Reflections," a volunteer-led program that offers residents the opportunity to share memories and life experiences through the art of cathartic storytelling. Participants in the program are encouraged to reminisce and preserve their stories on video to share with the ones they love. Through the practice of cathartic storytelling, aging adults renew their sense of purpose, self-worth, and are able to feel proud about their lives.
The GreenFields' "Reflections" program is the area's only storytelling program derived through partnership with the Roswell Park pastoral care department. Roswell Park volunteers serve as mentors and coaches to The GreenFields volunteers and staff. Teams from both organizations continue to collaborate and share best practices in reflective and cathartic storytelling, aiming to achieve the highest levels of individualized benefit for program participants.
The Niagara Lutheran Health System is a not-for-profit organization that provides for the physical, social and spiritual needs of the individuals it serves, in a Christian environment.
