The Carnegie Art Center will welcome back a band self-described as "A spicy blend of crime jazz, surf, tango and pop, with a touch of blood and a dash of cinnamon": Carina and the Six String Preacher. The modern-day "jazz noir" act will perform from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at the CAC, 240 Goundry St., North Tonawanda. Tickets are $10.
Based out of Buffalo, the band - formed by singer/songwriter Carina M. and guitarist/songwriter Vincent James Mastrantonio - has independently recorded, created, and produced original music videos and albums. The act just released a third EP, "The Great Hideaway."
Carina and the Six String Preacher has performed at some of the most renowned venues and festivals in the region. Following the release of their debut LP, "Liquid Think," in 2013, the band was featured at the Historic Lewiston Jazz Festival. While recording their second album "Why You So Wild, Crocodile?", the duo began making music videos, mostly homemade, for the new songs off their forthcoming EP. They're videos have garnered thousands of views and followers from around the world.
The CAC is open from 5-9 p.m. Thursdays and from noon until 3 p.m. and Saturdays. The building was completed in 1904 as one of thousands of public libraries financed by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Since 1976, the Carnegie, has been operating as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation offering art exhibitions, classes in a wide range of creative disciplines, and as a advocate for artists and art organizations.
