Poloncarz, officials to join in awards ceremony to celebrate student efforts, environmental management council
Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz will join representatives from the Buffalo Museum of Science, the Buffalo Zoo, the Environmental Management Council and the Erie County Department of Environment and Planning at noon Sunday to celebrate Earth Day with the "Pollution Prevention through Art, Rain Barrel and Environmental Management Council Awards" in the museum's auditorium.
More than 2,500 students from 58 schools around Erie County participated directly in the "Pollution Prevention through Art and Rain Barrel" programs. Seventeen pieces of art - from plastic bags, one video on recycling, and 10 painted rain barrels from the WNY Stormwater Coalition - were selected for recognition from more than 100 entries.
Students, teachers and family will be on hand from the selected art project displays at the museum. Members of the Environmental Management Council will also be recognized at the event for their work. The award ceremony begins promptly at noon.
