Annual event set for June 16 & 17
With spring weather right around the corner, preparations are in full swing for the 13th annual Lewiston GardenFest presented by the Lewiston Garden Club. Set for Saturday, June 16, and Sunday, June 17, organizers are now recruiting both vendors and local residents interested in showcasing their own gardens during this year's Lewiston GardenFest.
"Lewiston GardenFest is the biggest fundraiser of the year for Lewiston Garden Club, with all proceeds from the event going back into beautification and garden projects throughout the local community," said Doreen Albee, chairwoman, Lewiston GardenFest. "Being the 13th annual event, we want attendees to find at least 13 ways to love your own garden from browsing the nearly 80 vendors offerings flowers, plants, garden décor and more, to strolling some of Lewiston's beautiful private gardens opened only during GardenFest."
Businesses and vendors who sell items related to gardening, horticulture and the outdoors, including nurseries, landscapers, garden artists, builders and others, are encouraged to apply. Vendor applications are due by May 1 and can be downloaded at www.lewistongardenfest.com. The application fee varies from $125 to $225, based on the size of the vendor display.
Lewiston residents who are interested in showcasing their own gardens, or just a particular section of their yard, are encouraged to be part of this year's open gardens. Festival attendees can view the participating gardens only when the "Open Garden" sign is in place (between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Lewiston GardenFest weekend). For more information or to download an application, visit www.lewistongardenfest.com. The deadline to participate in the open gardens is May 5.
Free to attend, Lewiston GardenFest also includes speakers demonstrating new and different techniques to enhance one's gardens, and master gardeners on hand to answer questions throughout the weekend. In addition to free open gardens, attendees can also participate in a container garden contest for prizes.
All proceeds from Lewiston GardenFest are used by the Lewiston Garden Club for civic beautification and scholarships. For more information, visit www.lewistongardenfest.com.
