Obituary: Frank P. Aronica

Frank P. Aronica passed away Friday, Nov. 17, 2017, at the age of 91.
He was born in Buffalo to Freda and Charles Aronica. He was married to his wife Carol for 58 years and lived on Grand Island for over 50 years. Frank was a loving father and grandfather to his four sons, daughters-in-law, 10 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He served on the USS Arikara. Frank was awarded several medals for his service including the American Theater Medal, Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.
Frank was a past member and coach at the West Side Rowing Club for many years. He qualified for and rowed in the 1948 nationals in Philadelphia, medaling in the eight oared shell. He also medaled at several Canadian national regattas.
He was an owner and partner in Dual Printing Co. until his retirement in 1984.
He was an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels of Buffalo and a member of the Buffalo Ad Club during his career.
Frank loved to golf and bowl with his group of friends that he had known since childhood. He bowled several 300 games and got a hole in one in his sporting life. He was very active right up until the end of his life, having recently returned from a trip to California where he attended a large family reunion.
Frank was a compassionate, caring and much loved man who will be missed by so very many people, especially his loving family.
He is survived by his wife Carol, sons Charles (Robin), Christopher (Kyle), Paul (Kathleen) and Robert (Heather); grandchildren Lindsey (Cory), Peter, Eric, Christopher, Michele, Stephanie, Kevin, Victoria, Matthew and Nicholas; great-granddaughter Cecily; sisters Patrina Waelde and Rose Terranova, and many nieces and nephews in Western New York, California and Nevada.
Visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 24, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Kaiser Funeral Home, 1950 Whitehaven Road. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen R.C. Church, 2100 Baseline Road.
