Sally A. (née Clarke) Black of Grand Island passed away Sept. 3, 2017.
She was the beloved wife of Robert S. Black; dear mother of Dennis R. (Leilani) Black, John S. (Lisa) Black, Hamilton P. (Jennifer) Black, and Susan J. (Thomas) Utz. Sally is also survived by 10 grandchildren; Robert F. (Ashley), John F., Cory C. (Mondi), Bethany L., Kara L., Franklyn J. (Leah), Kathryn C., Paul J. Black; Sarah A., Thomas R. Utz; one great-grandchild, Max F. Black, and her sister Marianne (Keith) Tompkins.
Born in 1933 in South Buffalo to Dr. and Mrs. Hamilton J. Clarke, Sally received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan before teaching first grade for 38 years. When not in the classroom, Sally enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, volunteering with the church altar guild, attending her weekly bridge games, traveling around the world with her husband, and laughing with friends over dinner at the Buffalo Launch Club.
A funeral service was celebrated on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church on Grand Island.
