Grand Island Fire Co.: Driver hospitalized in north bridge accident

Shortly before 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, Grand Island Fire Co. rescue personnel responded to a two-vehicle collision in the southbound lane of the I-190 on the North Grand Island Bridge.
Fire Chief Chris Soluri stated that a tractor-trailer driven by 54-year-old Patricia Fenwick of Canada and a pickup truck driven by 37-year-old John Hamilton of North Tonawanda were involved. Fenwick was evaluated by GIFC medics and transported by Twin City Ambulance to Kenmore Mercy Hospital for further attention to injuries not considered life-threatening. The other driver denied injury.
The scene was then turned over to the New York State Police so that normal traffic patterns could be restored after wreckage was removed.
All GIFC units returned to service by 3:17 p.m.
Firefighters, medics treat near drowning victim
Shortly after 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, Grand Island Fire Co. rescue personnel responded to a reported near drowning at the swimming pool of Grand Island High School, 1100 Ransom Road.
Fire Chief Chris Soluri stated that when GIFC emergency medical services responders arrived on location within 3 minutes, a lifeguard and bystander were administering CPR upon a 10-year-old child who had been under water for an undetermined amount of time. Breathing was restored and GIFC medics continued advanced life support treatment while the child was being transported by Twin City Ambulance to Women's and Children's Hospital.
Preliminary assessment indicated the child is expected to make a satisfactory recovery.
All GIFC units returned to service by 2:35 p.m.
