Joan Wolfgang, the second-longest-serving member of the Niagara County Community College board of trustees, was honored posthumously for her dedicated work at NCCC at the February board meeting.
Trustees passed a resolution to honor Wolfgang for her service to the college. Joan's husband, Jerald I. Wolfgang, accepted a plaque on her behalf to recognize her 28 years of distinguished service to NCCC as a trustee, as well as her commitment to the success of students.
Joan joined the college board in 1982 and served as chairperson of college trustees three different times during her tenure on the college board. As a member of the NCCC board of trustees, she served in leadership positions on numerous committees and represented the college on several national boards.
Joan and Jerry served as co-chairs of the annual Foundation Gala, as well as lead volunteers in the NCCC Foundation major gifts campaign. She also was a major supporter of the student housing initiative and the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute project.
Joan died in 2010.
In accepting the plaque, Jerry said, "Joan loved NCCC and she loved the fact that everyone at the college cares about the students - the trustees, the faculty and the staff."
The plaque will be on display in the Robert Michael Sdao Memorial Board Room in the Notar Administration Building, on the college's Sanborn campus.
