Mount St. Mary's Hospital will celebrate Heart Month in February with its annual lipid panel screening on Sunday, Feb. 11, and continuing with a series of events throughout the month.
Activities will begin Friday, Feb. 2, when associates will wear red in recognition of "Go Red For Women" awareness day.
During the week of Feb. 5-9, the cardiology department at Mount St. Mary's will have a series of displays in the hospital main (south) lobby featuring information on heart health, diabetes, nutrition, stroke and physical rehabilitation.
The free community lipid panel screening will be held from 6:30-10 a.m. in the north lobby of the hospital at 5300 Military Road.
The tests are being conducted by the hospital and will cover cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL and LDL. Results will be mailed directly to the home of the individual tested. Last year, when Mount St. Mary's Hospital conducted its free screening, more than 250 people participated.
There will be several stations for testing, and no reservations will be taken. Those planning to take the test are reminded this is a fasting test. Individuals should not eat upon arising and prior to this test.
A complimentary breakfast will be served throughout the morning.
On Tuesday, Feb. 20, two cardiologists from Mount St. Mary's will lead an informative discussion on hypertension and cholesterol. The session will be held in the hospital cafeteria. A complimentary dinner will be served at 6 p.m., with the program to follow at 6:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public. Reservations are requested; call 716-298-2145.
