Tue, Jan 30th 2018 07:00 am
The Grand Island Rotary will host a meat raffle to support Growing Readers, a program in the Grand Island Central School District to develop literacy among Grand Island youth.
The event will take place Saturday, March 3, at 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Mary Star of the Sea Council Hall, 1841 Whitehaven Road. Doors open at 6 p.m. The event will start at 7 p.m.
While patrons are having a fun evening bidding and taking chances of winning meat packages, they will also be supporting a program to buy "read-to-me" books and have local pediatricians give them to new parents, encouraging them to read to their toddlers and youth. According to the Rotary, the program has been shown to raise interest in reading in youth, giving them a proper start toward school.
Tickets to the meat raffle are $10, giving patrons beer/wine/pop - bring a cooler and some $1 bills to the K of C Hall.
For presale tickets or information, call 716-773-6020 or email [email protected].
