Free diabetes prevention program workshops

Fri, Jan 19th 2018 03:30 pm
The Niagara County Department of Health, in collaboration with Niagara County Office for the Aging, is offering a free diabetes prevention program.
Prediabetes is a health condition that can lead to diabetes, heart disease and stroke.
Over 16 weeks, a trained lifestyle coach will lead one-hour weekly sessions to help participants improve their food choices, increase physical activity and learn coping skills to maintain weight loss. By making small lifestyle changes, participants can reach the two main goals of the DPP: Lose 5-7 percent of body weight and keep it off; and be more physically active.
The next program begins Wednesday, Jan. 31 (6-7 p.m.), at the American Legion, 8643 Buffalo Ave., Niagara Falls.
To schedule a free diabetes prevention program, a diabetes self-management workshop or a chronic disease self-management workshop, call the Niagara County Department of Health Nursing Division at 716-278-1900.
