Niagara Falls: Honeymoon Bridge collapse to be remembered

Thu, Jan 11th 2018 05:05 pm
In commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the collapse of the Honeymoon Bridge, the Niagara Regional Programs Department of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will host a presentation on the 40 years of its existence. The event will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, in the Castellani Building at DeVeaux Woods State Park, 3180 DeVeaux Woods Drive, Niagara Falls.
On Feb. 4, 1912, there was a tragedy on the Ice Bridge in the Niagara River. Mr. and Mrs. Eldridge Stanton of Toronto, and Burrell Hecock of Cleveland, who had travelled to the falls to get a glimpse of the frozen wonder, all lost their lives that day.
Author Leda Miller who is married to Hecock's second cousin, Jay Miller, will also be on hand to discuss her graphic novel series, "Hecock," which takes an imaginative look at Burrell Hecock during the final hours of his life.
Copies of Miller's books will be available for purchase and will be signed.
Following this presentation, from 1-4 p.m., a display about the Niagara River Ice Bridge will be available in the Visitor Center at Niagara Falls State Park.
Both events are free to attend. For information or to register, call 716-282-5154.
