MacSwan era opens in Wheatfield

Last week Wednesday, the Town of Wheatfield Town Board met for its reorganizational meeting to start the year. The meeting was the first headed by Town Supervisor Don MacSwan and also the first for Councilman Curt Doktor.
The reorganizational meeting was held to appoint certain people to certain positions, set times and dates for meetings, and other various needs to get the town organized for 2018 (bank deposits, set official newspapers, etc.).
The board designated Greater Niagara Newspapers and the Niagara-Wheatfield/North Tonawanda Tribune as its official newspapers. This designation is done for the town to submit legal notices and other important information that's necessary to get out to the public.
The board also appointed Councilman Larry Helwig as deputy supervisor for 2018. Also, the Town Board appointed Wendel and GHD as the town engineers for 2018. Wendel was also appointed as consultants to the Planning Board.
The board moved to reappoint Ed Mongold as the budget director for 2018. Mongold received high praise from former Town Supervisor Bob Cliffe for the work he's done over eight years.
The board also announced the Matthew Brooks will return as town attorney for 2018.
Also, former councilman Art Gerbec was appointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals for a five-year term. Gerbec recently retired from the Town Board alongside Cliffe.
Also, the Town Board mentioned they've received letters of interest referring to the vacant town justice position, formerly held by the late John J. Mattio.
The Town Board also announced regular Town Board meeting times for 2018. The dates are as follows: Jan. 22, Feb. 5, Feb. 26, March 5, March 19, April 2, April 16, May 7, May 21, June 4, July 2, Aug. 6, Sept. 10, Sept. 24, Oct. 1, Oct. 15, Nov. 5, Nov. 26, Dec. 3 and Dec. 17. Meeting times are tentatively set to start at 7:30 p.m. Most meetings fall on the first and third of each month except for Jan. 22, Feb. 26, and Sept. 10 and 24.
The town had a bill payment meeting on Jan. 8, and the first regular Town Board meeting of 2018 will be held at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 22.
