Last week Wednesday, the Town of Niagara Town Board held its 2018 reorganizational meeting to set important dates for the town, as well as assign people to certain jobs in the town.
Supervisor Lee Wallace called the approving of the organization listing in the agenda, "purposes for putting everyone back on the payroll."
In the list, notables included, Charles Teixeira being reappointed as deputy supervisor and Wallace being reappointed as the budget director.
The list set Town Hall hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Also, Town Board meetings will have the same time, 6 p.m., and scheduled on the third Tuesday of each month.
The town also named the Niagara Gazette and Niagara Frontier Publications as the official newspapers for the town.
Along with the organization listing, the board also approved the revised 2018 water/sewer rates.
Although the Town Board never wants to raise rates, the group was partially handcuffed this time around. Due to an increase in payments to the City of Niagara Falls Water Board mixed in with the payment to the Niagara County Sewer District sewer charges will increase.
The sewer rates and increases are as follows: Up to 8,000 gallons will cost $25 per quarter, a $5 increase; An average of 20,000 gallons will cost $4.55 per 1,000 gallons, a 75 cent per 1,000 increase; An average of 90,000 gallons will cost $4.90 per 1,000 gallons, a 75 cent per 1,000 increase; And an average of 150,000 gallons will cost $5.35 per 1,000 gallons, a 75 cent per 1,000 increase.
Town Clerk Sylvia Virtuoso also announced at the meeting the Association of Towns will hold its educational conference in New York City from Feb. 18-21. Virtuoso said the conference is schooling for all boards and elected officials and was a must read at the meeting.
The Town of Niagara's next Town Board meeting is slated to start at 6 p.m. Jan. 16.
