Louis J. Billittier Jr. and Mary Beth Billittier-Darling, owners of Chef's Italian Restaurant in Buffalo, announced that, for the next several months, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of their popular "Irv Special" will be donated to the ALS Foundation in honor of the late WKBW-TV Channel 7 news anchor.
The "Irv Special" was created by Weinstein as a special pasta dish over a decade ago that "packed a punch!" Customers can enjoy spiral pasta with chopped pepperoncini peppers, mushrooms and garlic, mixed with Chef's world-famous sauce.
Weinstein had a special connection to the restaurant, late owner Louis J. Billittier, and his family. In addition to Weinstein's love of Italian food, he was also host of the annual Variety Club Telethon on WKBW, which Mr. Billittier was chairman of for many years. The two appeared annually for decades raising money for Women and Children's Hospital, and other children's charities.
Weinstein recently lost his battle with ALS. He was diagnosed in early 2016.
Commenting on his passing, Lou Jr. said, "There was only one Irv. There will never be another. His memory will live forever at Chef's through the 'Irv Special.' "
