Joseph B. Scibetta, 73, a clinical social worker of Grand Island, entered into rest on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2017, in Kenmore Mercy Hospital after battling lymphoma.
Born in Niagara Falls, he was the son of the late Dominick and Rose (Ullo) Scibetta.
Scibetta was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School and attended Georgetown University for his freshman year. He finished his undergraduate education at Canisius College and later received his master's in social work in 1970 from the University of Buffalo. For 47 years, Joseph dedicated his life assisting people to gracefully negotiate loss and relieve the roadblocks to finding a loving self-connection.
Scibetta is survived by his two sisters, Josephine (Frank) Bongiovanni of Bergholz, and Vincenette (Antonio "Leo") Marcantonio of Grand Island, as well as his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his life companion Michael Delahunt and his brother Paul (Doris Fischer) Scibetta.
Friends are welcome to attend a memorial mass on Saturday, Aug. 26, at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen R.C. Church, 2100 Baseline Road, which will be followed by a light reception.
