The New York Power Authority kicked off its annual Festival of Trees last weekend as part of its "Deck the Halls" event. Visitors can now view more than 60 colorful trees, which are spread out across the two-building Niagara Power Vista at the Niagara Power Project.
Area nonprofit groups decorated the artificial trees to represent each one's respective mission. The trees are adorned with LED lights courtesy of NYPA. Participants include the American Cancer Society/Relay For Life Greater Niagara, American Diabetes Association, Aquarium of Niagara, Catholic Charities, Family & Children's Service of Niagara, New York State Park, Niagara Community Action Program, Niagara Falls Boys & Girls Club, Opportunities Unlimited, People Inc., SPCA and United Way of Greater Niagara.
Guests can visit the Festival of Trees from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, through the holiday season (excluding Christmas and New Year's Day). The Niagara Power Vista is located at 5777 Lewiston Road, right next to Niagara University. For more information, call 716-286-6661.
In addition to holiday activities, guests are invited to enjoy the Power Vista's state-of-the-art exhibits by taking a seat in the 4-D simulated ride, creating a transmission distribution system on a one-of-a-kind transmission grid table, building a dam or simulating the coordination of power across the state.
Both admission and parking are free.

Chamber of Commerce Year in Preview
On Wednesday morning, the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce held its annual end-of-the-year member meeting and breakfast inside the NYPA community room.
Instead of reviewing events and activities from the past year, President Jennifer Pauly spoke of the organization's goals for 2018.
Pauly laid out five key issues and related strategic goals for 2018. In particular, the Chamber of Commerce seeks to be a chamber of excellence and the leader in the region; build sustainability through fiscal responsibility; provide for staff development opportunities, including certifications; be the regional business community's recognized voice for critical issues affecting positive change, in order to support success in the area; maximize partnerships to enhance and encourage year-round business for meaningful economic growth; deliver value to members through marketing; establish the most active and engaged membership in the region; and offer programs and events that engage members and improve the overall bottom line of the organization.
Kris Trunzo, the outgoing board chairwoman, announced the slate of officers for 2018; while Daniel P. Forsyth, Esq., of Bond, Schoeneck & King, offered a presentation on New York Paid Family Leave law.
