The Rotary Club of Lockport and its high school counterpart, Rotary Interact, have been active with volunteer activity this past week.
Turkey cookers, servers and donation sorters assisted the Salvation Army staff at the organization's center on Cottage Street in Lockport. The groups also helped with bell ringing for the Red Kettle campaign.
Volunteers for the turkey dinner served clients of the Salvation Army on Monday, Dec. 4, making the work go quickly and enjoyably. More than 185 people were served the traditional turkey dinner, an event the Rotary Club has assisted in for many years.
Newer Rotarian John McDonald said, "My heart was moved as I watched a young school-aged girl cutting up the food on a plate for her little brother."
Rotarians and friends also paired up at several locations for four hours to ring the bell for the seasonal fundraiser, the Red Kettle campaign, on Thursday, Dec. 7. Volunteers could be found between 4 and 8 p.m. at Tops Markets on Transit Road and at Wright's Corners. They were also at Walmart on Transit.
