Falling gas prices continue in WNY

Low demand keeps prices down as refineries reach nearly full capacity

Monday's national average price for regular unleaded gasoline is $2.46 per gallon, down two cents since last week. One year ago, the price was $2.21. The New York state average is $2.65, down two cents since last week. A year ago, the state average was $2.42.
AAA Western and Central New York reports the following averages:
  • Buffalo - $2.64 (down 1 cent in past week)
  • Ithaca - $2.61 (down 1 cent in past week)
  • Rochester - $2.56 (down 3 cents in past week)
  • Rome - $2.60 (down 3 cents in past week)
  • Syracuse - $2.54 (down 3 cents in past week)
  • Watertown - $2.65 (down 2 cents in past week)
Today's average price for regular unleaded gasoline in New York is $2.65 per gallon, which is two cents less than last week, five cents less than one month ago, and 23 cents more than last year.
Weak demand is keeping gas prices down as the year-end driving season pushes ahead. The latest Energy Information Administration's report shows demand is down as gasoline stocks are on the rise across the nation, fueled by refineries reaching 93.8 percent of production capacity.
As predicted, December gas prices continue to decline, yet motorists are still paying the highest December gas prices since 2014.
