The Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday announced the team will once again partner with Catholic Charities of Buffalo for the Sabres "Holiday Angels." The program is an adopt-a-family initiative that allows Sabres fans to participate by supporting neighbors in need this holiday season.
"This wonderful program helps make the holidays a little less stressful for families in need," said Rich Jureller, Sabres vice president of community relations. "Our organization is proud to team up with Catholic Charities to bring Sabres 'Holiday Angels' back, and we hope our fans will help support this worthy cause."
There are four different ways fans can get involved with the program. The first is the adopt-a-family option. After registering to adopt, fans will receive information via email with details regarding the family they have been chosen to support. Information will include first name, age, gender, clothing size and interests/likes for each person to assist with shopping efforts. (Note: In some cases limited information is available.)
The second option is the donation of individual gifts to the program. The gift can be an item of the donor's choosing. Catholic Charities will match the gift with a person or family in need. The third option is to bring wrapping paper and wrapping accessories to one of the drop-off locations listed below. The final option is the donation of a gift card. Gift cards may be mailed directly to Catholic Charities Parish outreach and advocacy (741 Delaware Ave., Buffalo).
"We are so grateful to the Buffalo Sabres and the generous fans in Western New York," said Eileen Nowak, Catholic Charities director of parish outreach and advocacy. "Last year's Sabres 'Holiday Angels' program was a wonderful success and help for families in need, and we appreciate the support of the Buffalo Sabres again this year. This program truly enhances what we can offer during the holiday season - thank you to all who donate! For these families, these may be the only gifts they receive this Christmas."
Catholic Charities asks donors please not wrap the gifts, and to note the individuals' names on each gift if they have received that information through the program.
All gifts are due to the charity by Thursday, Dec. 14, and can be dropped off at the following locations:
•Catholic Charities Montante Administrative Center: 741 Delaware Ave., Buffalo, from Monday, Nov. 27 to Wednesday, Dec. 14 (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
•Catholic Charities Lackawanna Pantry: 75 Caldwell Place, Lackawanna, on Tuesday, Nov. 28, Friday, Dec. 1, Tuesday, Dec. 5, and Friday, Dec. 8 (8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; closed from noon to 12:30 p.m.)
