Susan G. Komen Upstate New York announces funding for breast cancer, breast health programs

Grant applications accepted now from nonprofit organizations
Susan G. Komen Upstate New York has announced the availability of grant funds for 2018. Applications for breast cancer and breast health programs from nonprofit organizations, governmental agencies and educational institutions that provide services to residents of one or more of the following locations are eligible for funding:
New York: Albany, Allegany, Broome, Cattaraugus, Cayuga, Chautauqua, Chemung, Chenango, Clinton, Columbia, Cortland, Erie, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Genesee, Green, Hamilton, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Livingston, Madison, Monroe, Montgomery, Niagara, Oneida, Onondaga, Ontario, Orleans, Oswego, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Schuyler, Seneca, St. Lawrence, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins, Warren, Washington, Wayne, Wyoming, Yates
Pennsylvania: Bradford, Potter, Tioga
The mission of Susan G. Komen is to save lives by meeting the most critical needs in communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer. To support this mission, Komen Upstate NY funds community-based grants for projects that reduce breast cancer mortality in its 49-county service region. So far, more than $14.7 million has been invested in the service area through the annual grants program.
Grants will be awarded for breast cancer projects that address specific funding priorities, which were selected based on data from the 2015 Komen Upstate New York Community Profile Report. The 2015 Community Profile Report and other details about the application process can be found at www.KomenUpstateNY.org.
Komen Upstate New York's funding priorities include the following:
Access to Breast Cancer Services: Programs that increase access to breast cancer services and decrease disparities in care (e.g., screening, diagnostics and treatment) for low-income (at or below 250 percent of the 2016 Federal Poverty Level), uninsured or underinsured and minority women in both rural and urban communities.
Breast Cancer Patient Navigation: Patient navigation is a process by which a trained individual - patient navigator - guides patients through and around barriers in the complex breast cancer care system.
Breast Cancer Supportive Services: Programs that provide evidence-based breast cancer support groups and/or survivorship support for individuals currently undergoing breast cancer treatment or living with metastatic breast cancer (MBC).
Evidenced-Based Education Programs: Projects that provide evidence-based and culturally relevant breast cancer education in one-on-one and group settings.
