The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo and the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation will team up to host a series of three community conversations about youth sports in this region.
Parents, coaches, community leaders and interested members of the public are invited to attend these free events. Each conversation will feature experts from the Aspen Institute's Sports & Society Program who will present "State of Play: Western New York," a comprehensive study about youth sports in the eight counties of Western New York.
To encourage participation across the entire region, events will be held in Buffalo, Ellicottville and Lockport. The goal of these community conversations is to reflect on the report and prioritize next steps so that all children in Western New York have the opportunity to be active through sports.
The schedule is 5-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, at Holiday Valley Lodge, Ellicottville; 5-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, at the The Dale Association, Lockport; and noon until 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at WNED-TV Studios, Buffalo. Registration opens 30 minutes prior to start time.
A light meal will be served at each event and there is no cost to attend. Visit www.cfgb.org/stateofplaywny to register by Friday, Nov. 17.
The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, a 501 (c)(3) organization, was established in 1919 to enhance and encourage long-term philanthropy in the Western New York community. The foundation's mission is: Connecting people, ideas and resources to improve lives in Western New York. The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation is a grantmaking organization dedicated primarily to sustained investment in the quality of life of the people of Southeast Michigan and Western New York. The two areas reflect Wilson's devotion to his hometown of Detroit and Greater Buffalo, home of his Buffalo Bills franchise.
Prior to his passing in 2014, Wilson requested that a significant share of his estate be used to continue a life-long generosity of spirit by funding the foundation that bears his name. The foundation has a grantmaking capacity of $1.2 billion over a 20-year period, which expires Jan. 8, 2035. For more information, visit www.rcwjrf.org.
