Niagara University is set to recognize five community leaders while raising much-needed funds for student scholarships as a way to pay homage to its Vincentian heritage and celebrate the 400th anniversary of the birth of St. Vincent de Paul's mission of service.
Niagara University, the first Vincentian university established in the U.S., will hold its President's Dinner on Friday, Nov. 17, at The Conference and Event Center Niagara Falls. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with cocktails and includes awards presentations, dinner and music. "Business attire" is welcome.
Proceeds from the President's Dinner benefit Niagara University's scholarship programs. Last year's dinner raised a net total of $210,000 for student scholarships.
In accordance with its mission-guided commitment to access and affordability, Niagara granted more than $44 million in scholarship assistance to undergraduate students in 2016-17.
Five individuals known for their professional success and community philanthropy will be honored during this year's President's Dinner:
  • Jeffrey R. Holzschuh, Class of 1982, managing director and chairman, Morgan Stanley Institutional Securities Group; chairman, Niagara University board of trustees
  • Mary Helen Holzschuh, '82, former nurse; philanthropist
  • William G. Gisel Jr., president and CEO, Rich Products Corp.
  • Bishop Jesse J. Scott Sr., co-founder and senior pastor, Word of Life Ministries
  • Rev. JoAnne Scott, co-founder and associate pastor, Word of Life Ministries
Larry A. Montani, a member of Niagara University's board of trustees, and his wife, Mary, serve as the dinner's chair couple.
The Congregation of the Mission is a community of Roman Catholic priests and brothers (Vincentians) that fulfills its call to alleviate poverty through ministries such as education, social services, health care, missions and spiritual formation. The year 1617 is widely considered the year of the community's origin, based on events that occurred in the life of St. Vincent de Paul in Folleville and Châtillon, France.
Niagara University (established in 1856), St. John's University (1870) and DePaul University (1898) are the three institutions of higher education located in the U.S. and sponsored by the Congregation of the Mission.
Tickets for the President's Dinner are $195 per person (or $145 for NU alumni who graduated after 2007) and may be reserved at www.niagara.edu/PresidentsDinner. Ticket and sponsorship information is also available by contacting NU's office of institutional advancement at 716-286-8778 or [email protected]. Tickets will not be available at the door.
