Dispose of unwanted drugs

Fri, Oct 27th 2017 04:10 pm
The 14th National Prescription Drug Take-Back will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28. There will be a drop-off site at the Grand Island Town Hall, 2255 Baseline Road, to return unwanted prescription and over-the- counter drugs for safe disposal.
The National Prescription Drug Take-Back keeps expired or unneeded medications out of waterways and away from anyone who might misuse them. Prescription drug abuse rates are startlingly high, and many users obtain drugs from the medicine cabinets of family or friends. Not properly disposing of old medications increases the likelihood of overdoses and also puts children at risk for poisoning.
The Take-Back event at Town Hall is free and open to the public. Volunteers will meet cars at the Grand Island Boulevard entrance of Town Hall to take the medications - no need to get out of the car. In the previous Take-Back events from 2010-17, over 8 million pounds, or 4,000 tons, of prescription drugs were collected nationwide.
