Obituary: Charles David Allaire

Charles David "Chuck" Allaire, 88, of Grand Island, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 16, 2017, after a brief illness.
Chuck was preceded by Jane Allaire, his beloved wife of 51 years.
Chuck was born and raised in Western New York and was a longtime resident of Grand Island.
He served in the Navy during the Korean War as an aviation machinist's mate second class where he received several commendations.
A dedicated family man, Chuck enjoyed visiting, playing cards and dining with family and friends. Through his years he took pleasure in fishing, swimming, being a Boy Scout leader, gardening, and driving around Grand Island enjoying the river scenery. He enjoyed walking at Niagara Falls, in his neighborhood, and at Beaver Island State Park. He was known for his quick wit and his love of a good story.
He was an active member of St. Stephen R.C. Church on Grand Island and played a significant role in the formation and leadership of its Marriage Encounter program.
He is survived by his children: John (Myrna) Allaire of Rosenberg, Texas; Michelle Allaire of Grand Island; Scott (Kelly) Allaire of the Town of Tonawanda; Yolande (Jon) Hasselbeck of Grand Island; Charles (Jane) Allaire of Tumwater, Washington; Mary (Boyd) Gifford of Fredonia; and Ruby Allaire of Cheektowaga. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Chuck was preceded by his brothers Burton, William, Richard, Donald, Joseph, and Robert Allaire; and his sisters, Dorothy Weisbeck, and Margret Signer.
Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, July 2, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Kaiser Funeral Home, 1950 Whitehaven Road, Grand Island. All are welcome to attend a memorial Mass for Chuck that will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 3, at St. Stephen R.C. Church, 2100 Baseline Road, Grand Island. A luncheon (reception) will follow at the church.
