The New York State Office of Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation, in conjunction with its project partners the New York Power Authority, New York State Department of Transportation, USA Niagara Development Corp. and the City of Niagara Falls, will hold a public information meeting for the parkway removal project in Niagara Falls.
The meeting will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at The Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls, 101 Old Falls St.
The major components of the project include removal of roughly two miles of the expressway features of the Niagara Scenic (formerly Robert Moses) Parkway from downtown Niagara Falls to Whirlpool State/DeVeaux Woods State Park; installation of a trail network on lands reclaimed from the parkway removal; and reconstruction of Whirlpool Street and a portion of Third Street.
The environmental review for the project has been completed, and the Federal Highway Administration authorized approval of its preliminary design on Feb. 23. The project is now in its final design phase. Project construction is scheduled to begin in late spring of 2018.
The meeting will begin with a short welcome and orientation presentation, followed by an open house for the public to review the progress plans and renderings developed to date, ask questions, and to provide input. Staff will be on hand to explain the project, answer questions, and receive comments from the public.
Questions on the meeting should be directed to Paul Tronolone at the USA Niagara Development Corp. at 716-284-2556.
