The University at Buffalo Center for the Arts welcomes Rodrigo y Gabriela: Tenth Anniversary Tour with special guest Marc Scibilia at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17.
Mexican acoustic rock-maestros Rodrigo y Gabriela are set to continue their triumphant U.S. touring run this fall, as they celebrate the 10th anniversary re-release of their classic self-titled break-out album.
Originally released in Ireland in 2006, the album topped the charts ahead of Johnny Cash and the Arctic Monkeys, and a U.S. release on ATO Records followed in 2007. "Rodrigo y Gabriela" was produced by Rodrigo and Gabriela with John Leckie, best known for his work with Radiohead and The Stone Roses. Affectionately known to fans as "the Crocodile album," the record has gone on to sell 750,000 copies worldwide.
The global success of the album, together with endless touring, established Rod & Gab as one of the most popular acoustic instrumental artists in the world, with a string of sold out tours of America, U.K., France and Japan, including multiple nights at the Royal Albert Hall, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Radio City Music Hall and the Hollywood Bowl.
In 2016 alone, Rodrigo y Gabriela played in 25 countries around the world, including their debut tour of South America. The re-release of "Rodrigo y Gabriela" includes the newly remastered album, two bonus tracks, plus a live album and DVD recorded at The Olympia Theatre in Dublin in 2006.
Grand Island's Scibilia had music featured in a Jeep commercial this past summer. He has a Super Bowl commercial and an appearance on NBC's "Today" under his belt.
Tickets are available at the UB Center for the Arts box office (noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday-Friday) and online at www.ticketfly.com. To charge tickets, call 877-987-6487. For more information, call 716-645-2787 or visit www.ubcfa.org or www.rodgab.com.
