On Saturday, Oct. 7, Grand Island firefighters, medics/emergency medical technicians, and cadets reported to fire headquarters for their annual state of readiness inspection by Fire Chief Chris Soluri.
Soluri thanked all members for their contributions during 2017, which saved lives and property. He noted that a 5 a.m. fire earlier in the day reflected the competent professionalism that he has been so proud of throughout his tenure as chief.
Meanwhile, in a delayed presentation, firefighter Gary Roesch was recognized for 50 years of GIFC service.
Town Supervisor Nathan McMurray also noted that recent events demonstrate conclusively the value of first responders and the persistent challenges they face. However, Grand Islanders are extremely fortunate to have such GIFC volunteers to serve and protect them, he stressed.
