The Rev. Dennis H. Holtschneider, C.M., Class of 1985, Ph.D., Pamela R. Jacobs-Vogt and Michael J. Nicholson, '88, have been named to the board of trustees of Niagara University. Their elections were announced by the Rev. James J. Maher, C.M., president of the university.
Holtschneider is the executive vice president and chief operations officer for Ascension, the nation's largest nonprofit health care organization. Jacobs-Vogt is a philanthropist and community activist, while Nicholson serves as president, chief operating officer and chief financial officer of J.Crew Group Inc.
Holtschneider holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics education from NU and a doctorate in administration, planning and social policy from Harvard University. An ordained member of the Congregation of the Mission, Holtschneider recently served for 13 years as the 11th president of DePaul University. He became executive vice president and chief operations officer for Ascension on July 1.
A Detroit native, Holtschneider previously served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of NU, and also taught moral theology at St. John's University, while also serving as director and rector of the Vincentian community's college seminary program at Ozone Park in New York City. He is a faculty member in the Harvard Graduate School of Education's Management Development Program where, during the fall 2014 semester, he served as a visiting scholar and president-in-residence.
The philanthropic hands of Jacobs-Vogt reach far into the educational, medical and cultural communities of Western New York. A teacher by profession, the Buffalo native has served as a trustee of Holy Angels Academy, Nichols School, Elmwood-Franklin School, Canisius High School, Daemen College, Canisius College and NU. She has also been involved with the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation, Skating for the Blind and Handicapped, Artpark & Company and the Sisters of St. Francis Executive Council, to name just a few.
Jacobs-Vogt chairs a foundation established in memory of her late husband, Dr. Lawrence D. Jacobs, a member of NU's Class of 1961. In January 2010, the family contributed $1 million toward the construction of NU's B. Thomas Golisano Center for Integrated Sciences. The Jacobs family has also made a pair of $1 million contributions to Roswell Park.
Nicholson earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from NU and his master's degree in business administration from St. John's University. He is also a certified public accountant.
He was named president, chief operating officer and chief financial officer of J.Crew Group Inc. in December 2015.
Nicholson was previously the executive vice president, chief operating officer, chief financial officer and treasurer of ANN INC. Previously, from 2007-12, he served as executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of ANN INC. Prior to that, Nicholson spent seven years at L Brands Inc., holding various executive positions, including executive vice president, chief operating officer and chief financial officer for Victoria's Secret Beauty Company. Earlier in his career, Nicholson held senior positions at Colgate-Palmolive, Altria Group Inc. and PwC.
