Obituary: Bob Marcel

Bob Marcel of Grand Island died suddenly March 17, 2017, at the age of 67.

He died in Miami at Jackson Memorial Hospital following a vacation in Aruba with family.

He was born Jan. 11, 1950, in Niagara Falls and lived on Grand Island.

He attended the University of Dayton to receive his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. He was the plant engineer for Occidental Petroleum Co. from 1974 to his retirement in 2012.

He enjoyed constructing model trains, woodworking, metalworking, and machine tooling, and could fix anything and everything for his family and friends, and often did home improvement projects at his home and the homes of his children. He had several wood and metal lathes in his basement to fabricate the components.

He also enjoyed gardening, especially eating warm tomatoes from the vine while weeding the garden. He liked cooking, especially perfecting his pizza recipe.

He was a board member of Grand Island Moose Lodge 180.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl (née Holtvogt) Marcel; his daughters, Barbara (Jay) Hayden, of Cincinnati, Janet Marcel of Tonawanda, and Saundra Marcel of Manhattan; and son, Steven (Beth) Marcel, of Grand Island; his brothers: Mike (Judy) Marcel of Huntington, Connecticut, and John (Pei Hua) Marcel, of Shelton, Connecticut, and nieces and nephews. He enjoyed babysitting his grandson and had two more grandchildren on the way, twin girls due in July.

The family was present to receive friends Thursday at the Amigone Funeral Home, In (Tonawanda Chapel) on Sheridan Drive. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, March 24, at 10 a.m. from St. Stephen R.C. Church, 2100 Baseline Road, Grand Island. All are asked to assemble at church.

Interment will be in Whitehaven Road Cemetery, Grand Island.
