The Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University will host its fall fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 14, at The Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls. The museum is calling this new event "CAMfest," and described it as a fun and casual event featuring a variety of hearty hors d'oeuvres, an open bar and live music by the Custode & Parisi Jazz Duo.
The event runs from 6-9 p.m. Cost is $75 per person. $100 patron tickets include a listing in the program. Proceeds benefit public programming at the Castellani Art Museum, including Kids 'n Arts Summer Camp, Art Express Family Workshops, school tours, exhibitions and "Meet Me at the CAM" lecture series. Purchase tickets online at www.castellaniartmuseum.org, or call Susan Clements at 716-286-8201.
CAM Director Kate Koperski said, "The museum will honor Thomas Kegler, a prominent artist and educator from East Aurora, with the 2017 CAM Legacy Award. The CAM Legacy Award recognizes an individual for his or her contributions to sustaining the legacy of Armand and Eleanor Castellani.
"Kegler's exhibition, 'Painting Niagara,' is currently on view at the Castellani Art Museum."
Guests will have an opportunity to bid on luxury items, experiences and original art in silent and live auctions. The live auction will feature a five-course gourmet dinner with wine for 12 at Lakewood Castle, as well as tickets to a Syracuse vs. Notre Dame basketball game at the Carrier Dome with overnight accommodations. Other silent auction items include Kate Spade designer bags; a week's accommodation in San Miguel Allende, Mexico; Buffalo Bills and Sabres tickets; "Burgers for a Year" from Hard Rock Café; fine dining certificates; and original artwork.
Other fundraising activities include a bourbon tasting and "Stock Your Bar" raffle.
A highlight of the evening will be a Niagara Falls postcard painting, to be completed by guests who will be able to paint a small portion of the design that has been outlined on a large canvas. This painting will be presented to the City of Niagara Falls in commemoration of its 125th anniversary. Michael Beam, the museum's curator of exhibitions and special projects, created the canvas design. He will supervise the collaborative painting at CAMfest.
The design was inspired by an artwork from The Charles Rand Penney collection of historical Niagara Falls prints, the world's largest assembling of historical Niagara Falls prints, and part of the Castellani Art Museum's permanent collection.
The event is planned by the CAM's special events committee: Sally Avery, Ellen Augello, Cathleen Blood, Robert Bloom, Kevin Bromley, Carla Castellani, Diane Castellani, Anne Marie DiMino-Hepfer, Lyn Dyster, Rose Gellman and Anthony Leone.
